What is up
Jul. 18th, 2004 06:21 pmThe week in review:
Last week the day after the big life-altering thing happened, I locked myself in my room for about 6 hours and couldn't come out. Everytime I tried to, I would start crying for really no great reason. At one point I attempted to help Jeff move all the stuff back to its places in the living room/kitchen. He felt so bad for me he even offered to turn on the air-conditioner, which I thought was sweet but declined. I moved the standing clock back behind the couch...and then had to run with tears in my eyes back to my room and lock myself inside again. Looking back at this, it was really funny.
That night made things better when Rj called after his nap and randomly suggested we spend the night going to Champaign and then to his house to do laundry. I love spontaneous stuff like that, and as I had nothing else going on and DESPERATELY needed to do laundry, we packed up and went. We stopped at the mall and saw a kiosk in the middle that was selling "designer crabs", which are unfortunate little crabs whose shells have been painted to look bright and titillating and like living impulse-buys. Supercrab was my fave. In Champaign we ate at Garcia's (the flying angel tomato place). They have good pizza and great breadsticks, but are also expensive. I love how that restaurant is laid out, though- lots of levels! It's like trying to make your server hunt you down in a maze. While we were there, we discussed Transmetropolitan, which is a comic book that Rj has gotten me into HARDCORE. IT IS AMAZING. I've never truly been an avid reader of any comic before, but I cannot get enough of this one. It's all future-y but reflects the contemporar-y and it's just perfectly wonderful to read-y. I think it's great that Rj is going to write an adapted screenplay of it, it is a very cool concept and I think people would go see it in theatres. Man, I'd drag all my friends.
Then we went to Legends to meet up with Evan, who informed us he is the only one who doesn't know what causes tidal waves and everyone else in the world does. It's the MOOOOOOOOOOOONNN!!!! I also totally randomly ran into Rachel Bettenhausen of all people, which was neato. It reminded me how far behind I am in preparing for next semester's auditions, YIKES. Gotta get on that pronto. Does anyone have the plays??
Then we drove to Arthur. I accidently spit out my gum onto a pillow. Trooper is still ridiculously cute and playful. Getting my laundry done for free was such a relief cuz I was on a supertight budget last week. Plus the Bucklers took us to Yoder's kitchen for dinner (and Jenni was there, too, so it was the whole Buckler clan). Over this "weekend" excursion, I read about 48 issues of Transmet.
After we drove home, dealt with his scary fuel-guzzling car, stopped at the Decatur mall, and picked up Book 7 of Transmet, Rj's friend Mike called. He came and visited for a while, and then we went to his house (which is huge but kinda gross inside). He was one of those "Pick 5 People Who Are Socially Inept Around Donnelle", it was annoying. Seriously, when I meet someone I always make sure I look at them when I am talking to my previously-established friend so they don't feel awkward and left out and stuff. Pick 5 people are amazing at avoiding me until I've been in the same vicinity as them for months and months. Ah well.
On Thursday night Rj, Wendy, and I drove all around the town looking for Reno 911 on DVD. Rj convinced (I think) the Walmart staff that I am from a third world country and cannot speak English and am trying to assimilate through watching American entertainment. The manager of the electronics section came over to ask if he was choking me, it was really funny.
On Friday I went to Kevin's for inside-out barbecue cheeseburgers, which I would fully condone at this point as one of my Favorite Foods. Wendy, Kevin, and I watched lotsa Futurama and Family Guy, as well as Clone High (which he has on his computer!! Why did they cancel that show?) Eventually I went home to meet up with Dan, who was done with Session 1 of Cybercamp. He took me to a cookout that the camp leaders were having at somebody's house. They had SO MUCH FOOD. I wanted to take advantage of the situation so badly, but I was still stuffed to the gills with something like 3/4 lb. of ground beef thanks to Kevin. I still stuffed down 2 twice-baked potatos and some really good frozen pudding stuff. And Dan and I saw a kitty and named it Tigerface! Dan's Cybercamp friends seemed pretty nice, too. We had a good discussion about Six Feet Under. One of his friends (also named Dan) figured out I am a theatre major just because of my mannerisms, I thought that was pretty cool and even flattering in a way. On our way out, the REALLY SUPER NICE lady who was running the party begged us to take her food home, so I ended up with a carton of fruit and Dan got 6 ears of corn, which I have no clue what he'll do with those. Oh, and we saw a completely expressionless baby.
We drove to Best Buy where I bought Reno. Lucky me, by waiting a day it went down more than 2 dollars in price! 14 episodes of one of the funniest shows on television for only $19.99, people. The price is RIGHT, buy it!!! I also bought Quills off the clearance rack for $5.99. I love that movie.
On our way home, we started discussing how much we can't wait for Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs to come out on DVD. We got more and more excited as we discussed the shows, and when our conversation reached a fevered pitch I recommended that we rent "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" right freaking NOW. Dan was only too happy to oblige. We spent something like 45 minutes at the Movie Fan looking for it on the Kids' Rack, which is AMAZING, by the way. I totally plan to rent more movies from my youth and reminisce. We had fun just LOOKING at them! The Wizard, for crying out loud!!!
Anyway, we figured out that The Movie Fan didn't have it, so we drove to Family Video where every kids movie has a blue faded box cover. We found it there :-). At home we watched it and were graced with a visit from Jenni, who also missed the genius that is Tiny Toons. After she left, Dan and I watched Jeff's DVD of Ellen Degeneres stand-up, which is SO HYSTERICAL. That was my third time seeing it and I still laughed out loud. I think I might buy it, it's only $10.
Yesterday I was trapped in my room because I didn't want to face the Downers Grove Blums in my pajamas AGAIN, so I hid out in my room until they left. I'm tired of looking like a dirty, lazy peasant in front of them. Then Dan and I got dressed and went to Kevin's for Round of Burgers Two. We watched Dodgeball, and it SUCKED!!! I know a lot of people will disagree with me about that, but man...Dan and I totally did not like it. And Vince Vaughn seemed like he completely forgot how to act in it. But all was made up for later when Dan and I went to The Palace to see Anchorman. Now THAT is a FUNNY MOVIE!!! Like most people have said, I'd agree that it is kind of slow for the first 15-30 minutes, but then it just goes INSANE. It also helped to be in a theatre full of people cuz that always makes me laugh more. Steve Carrell is worth the price of admission alone. "I stabbed a man in the heart!" "Yes, I saw you throw a trident into him. Listen, Brick, you'd better lay low for a while, you're probably wanted for murder." Hahahahahahahaha!!!
After the movie, Dan and I went to Baker's Square for superlate dinner. Robert Hansen was our waiter, yay! This meant I got a full slice of pie for the price of a half-slice. We came home and watched some Reno and then went to bed.
So that's pretty much my goings-on, as well as spending many minutes trying to figure out what is going ON in my head. Quite the roller coaster.
Speaking of those wonderful contraptions, I am going home either this Wednesday or Thursday so I can see some friends and also Nicole's show before I leave for Florida on Tuesday. I can't wait! I'm starting to get really excited about it, I love Universal Studios so much. I love rides!!! And movies!!! So it's kind of perfect!!! And it caters to a more grown-up audience than Disneyworld does!!! But they took the Hitchcock exhibit out, I'm peeved about that. At least we got some amazing pictures from it last year.
