Audition Day - August 19, 2004
Woke up at 10 AM and eventually ambled my way downstairs. Showered, dressed, practiced monologue, and fell asleep again. Woke up 2 hours later, practiced monologue some more. Watched new episode of TMNT with Jeff. Ate muffins.
Went to 4 o'clock auditions. Saw Nick, Marc, Scott, Maddie, Katie, and etc. there. I love the moment you meet up with your friends back at school after months and months of summer.
Performed monologue. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad. I felt pretty much the way I did about it after my last audition.
I came back to the apartment where Jeff and Chloe were watching Peter Pan. I still don't really like all the crazy sexual-tension in that movie, I don't think it has to be laid on that thick. Caitlin stopped by with Nick Harden! It was so crazy seeing him down here. Felt just like last year when I ran into Nick and Marc for the first time on the quad. After the movie, Caitlin made us all spaghetti for dinner, and we watched Hook while waiting for the lists to go up. And guess who that pirate is who gets put into the Boo Box in the beginning! GLENN CLOSE!!!!!!! I shit you not, look it up. It's totally her in a beard. Anyway, I'm sad I didn't stop in at the party going on upstairs, but oh well, parties are a dime a dozen in college.
Jeff, Chloe, David, and I walked to the lists about 45 minutes after they were put up. I was SO SURE that all of them would have callbacks and I would have none, but that was not the case! Only David did (naturally). We walked back in silence, it was weird. SO many good people did not get called back. But I have to say, I'm glad I'm not the only one, by far.
We came back and hung around for a while here. Jenni came over. We ended up playing with the Ouiji board and scaring ourselves every time someone knocked on the door of our popular apartment. Then we had a seance and tried to contact the ghost of Milner. But we couldn't remember her first name, so we just said A. Milner over and over til it sounded too funny and I had trouble not laughing.
Dan came home later, and Shannon moved into the apartment. Dan and I watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (in our on-going revisitation of favorite children's movies- we watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks the other day). I had never seen Chitty before, and the entire first half BLEW ME AWAY. It's SOOOO good!!! Wonderful songs ("Toot Sweets", The Bamboo song, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"!!!), and the cutest little British kids EVER, and Dick Van Dyke is a crazy dance machine! Plus the screenplay was by Roald Dahl, what's not to love?
I'll tell you what: the second half. Oh man. It all started going downhill after "Truly Scrumptious." That whole crazy story just sucked. But after the movie was FINALLY over (it even had an intermission built into it, it was SO LONG), we rewound the tape and watched the bamboo number over again. It's so impressive, I can't even describe it accurately.
So I went to bed around 3 AM. It had been a very fun, eventful day.
And even though I haven't been called back for anything (as of yet), I had the best hair-day of my ENTIRE LIFE. And that is truly scrumptious.
Quotant Quotables:
"I just have to keep in mind that I'm supposed to like doing this."
-Katie, on auditions
"THE CHILDREN ARE SCREAMING! THE CHILDREN ARE SCREAMING!"
-The housekeeper in "Hook" (I love that, it's so scary, and I'm totally gonna scream that at Caitlin one night)
